Event Programme
With its theme, “Uniting for global challenge and opportunity”, LIDW24 will follow up on last year’s theme “Adapting to a changing world” and look not only at what progress has been made in the dispute resolution world over the last year, but also at what we can expect over the next year and beyond. What does the next year hold for dispute resolution professionals around the world?
LIDW24 will feature a combination of a varied technical programme combined with the usual variety of social and networking events to enable participants to share ideas, to make new contacts and connections and to renew old acquaintances.
The week will open with an International Arbitration Day: a flagship arbitration event showcasing the importance of London as a global arbitration centre. High-profile keynotes will open the day, followed by 12 in-person panels on jurisdictions and regions spanning the world from Europe to Latin America. In line with the LIDW24 theme the panels will discuss key local developments as well as Investor-State disputes, sanctioned countries and changes to arbitration legislation. The International Arbitration Day sessions will be hosted by a hub of member firms formed by Clyde & Co, Covington & Burling and Kirkland & Ellis, all within a 5-minute walk of each other, allowing delegates plenty of time to move between panels.
LIDW will also feature a one day conference held at the QEII Centre in Westminster, at which leading practitioners, judges, arbitrators and all those involved in the dispute resolution business will consider the important matters that affect our clients. We will look at our theme through panel sessions from different perspectives, as well as examining different topics such as global enforcement, AI, funding and ESG – together with ample opportunity for networking throughout the day.
As in 2023, events organised by LIDW Members will play a large part in the Week. In line with the LIDW ethos, our members are collaborating to put on events taking place across London, focussing on applying our theme of “Uniting for global challenge and opportunity” to a range of dispute types; we expect a broad mix of events and have had huge interest from members. More events will be added as we get closer to the Week itself and the range of topics covered should mean that there really is something for everyone.
LIDW is of course also about meeting new friends and contacts and keeping up with old friends in the international disputes community. The LIDW24 conference programme will also be complemented by a number of organised social events, including an Opening Reception at the De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, a drinks reception for up to 700 attendees following the main conference, a Gala Dinner and for our young and young at heart delegates supper clubs and the Law Rocks 15th anniversary gig with an LIDW VIP area.
We look forward to welcoming you to LIDW in June 2024.

International Arbitration Day
Registrations close Thursday 30 May 09:00 GMT BST - Registration is now closed
LIDW’s International Arbitration Day will ‘follow the arbitration disputes sun’ across key regions and jurisdictions. The event will be hosted across three firms within a very short walk of one another, so that delegates can choose the sessions covering the jurisdictions and regions most relevant to their work. The International Arbitration Day will explore recent developments, the connections of those regions to English law and London seat arbitrations as well as the role of lawyers in enforcement procedures and asset recovery.
Each session will consist of a panel discussion with a moderator with time allowed for Q&A.

CAT amongst the pigeons - Competition law, the CAT, group actions and the next big trends
Registration for this event is now closed
With the growth of collective actions in recent years, the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) has transformed itself into the UK’s class actions tribunal. The rich, objective data on CAT cases, now available for the first time, clearly show the stark surge in large competition claims based on consumer issues. These consumer issues are often high profile and play themselves out much more publicly than traditional business-to-business litigation. The level of public attention generates unique considerations in respect of participants’ reputations (both claimant and defendant side). A panel, including UK litigation analytics leaders Solomonic, competition litigation specialists from Linklaters, leading competition chambers Brick Court and reputation consultancy Byfield, will explore these themes.

Sanctions, International Law and the Impact on Rights
Registration for this event is now closed
More and more people in the West, even those who have never known a sanctioned person, are surprised to discover that their lives are touched in some way by unilateral economic sanctions. The phenomenon is labyrinthine, ever growing, and often puzzling. Our keynote and speakers will unpack this puzzle and try to answer the following questions: Are the sanctions justified? Are they lawful as a matter of international law? Do we comply and adjust? Do we fight back? Do we try to correct them to find a smoother fit with modern life? Can the historical dimension of sanctions illuminate our predicament? What is the best forum to challenge the legality of sanctions? Are the current judicial review procedures meaningless? Do sanctions achieve their aims? Are we destined for an ever-increasing world of sanctions and countersanctions? Will it be fair or moral to disregard or break sanctions? While the speakers and organisers do not promise that all the answers would be definitive, we do promise an intellectually stimulating event and networking opportunity in a safe academic space.
